Looking after the Lakeland landscape is part of our manifesto and we’ve been thinking about all the essential jobs needed to maintain those precious fells. herdy has sponsored the certified training of two dry stone wallers through the Cumbria branch of the Dry Stone Walling Association. Chris Bratt and his team will facilitate the training and the administration of our funding will be handled through the Tourism and Conservation Partnership. We’re really excited about this - we might even roll up our sleeves and have a go ourselves. Coincidentally, we’ve since found out that Herdwick sheep are particularly destructive when it comes to dry stone walls so it’s good to know that when they make a mess of things, we’ll be helping to tidy up after them.
