Farmers feed all of us, so the future for responsible and sustainable farming in this country should also be in their hands.
Young farmers are often talked about, but not with. They should be inspired to share their thoughts, ideas, and dreams.
Herdy is helping to gather and share those ideas in order to create a campaign that engages with everyone; and helps all of us understand and appreciate their world and it’s future.
Spence (Spencer Hannah, Co-Founder and Co-Creator of Herdy) met with the Crook Young Farmers on Tuesday 25th September. This was the first of hopefully many Young Farmers groups who will join the flock, grow the movement, and get Young Farmers heard.
The top idea from this gathering was:
Education, Understanding and Awareness. Make Agriculture and Farming a lesson in our schools national education program.
If you’re a Young Farmer or an interested Young Person and would like to join the campaign, Herdy would love to hear from you and your ideas.
Hello. I love the fact that you are trying to inspire the next generation to consider farming as a potential career.
I work for a company called the Primary Business Partnership, based in Cockermouth. We are a free brokerage and signposting service to offer career based learning activities in Primary schools in West Cumbria. Today I am going into a school to run one of my Aspiration sessions which involves getting 3 to 4 volunteers from different job sectors into the school to talk about their career journeys. At the start of the session I talk about all of the different opportunities available in Cumbria and farther afield. Part of the session involves my lunchbox of Cumbrian produce/ companies. During this part I have a Herdy mug (which I have my coffee in) and talk about your company - how it was set up and how you now sell to places like the US and Japan. Just as an aside I've also got on my Herdy socks today!!
I was wondering if at some point soon we could have a chat about some of the exciting things that we offer in schools and how you could help? We work with a lot of schools in rural areas and we get quite a few children who want to be farmers when they grow up.

This sounds very interesting indeed! Best bet would be to email our Co-founder, Diane Hannah, on diane@herdy.co.uk and go from there.
Thanks for getting in touch!
