A new campervanning business is looking to deliver miles of smiles to those seeking the freedom of the open road.
The business is the creation of Martyn and Sara Merckel, a local couple who have a love for the Lake District, a sense of adventure, and a passion to get people camping. Having brought up their own two boys on the campsite they owned at Eskdale, Martyn and Sara know the benefits of shared family time in the great outdoors and are keen to get others enjoying holidays packed with fun and adventure.
Uninspired by the world of “beige” motorhomes, Sara contacted Spencer and Diane Hannah, founders of Herdy, and asked if this cute and lovable brand from the Lake District would like to go camping. And to her surprise the answer came back as a resounding “Yes”!
Six months later, three VW vans, branded and designed by Herdy and customised by specialist company Dirty Weekender, are now set to go.
Spencer Hannah, Co-Founder of Herdy told us:
“We were delighted to meet Sara and Martyn and hear their idea to customise the campervans Herdy style. Herdy’s all about spreading smiles and sharing happy moments so it seemed like the perfect fit. We’ve added our design touch to these campervans and they’re really unique and special. We love the idea that people can have a Herdy Campervan adventure, exploring the Lakes and beyond. What’s not to like!”
Sleeping up to 4 people, the bespoke vans are fitted with a panoramic pop-top roof, side awning, swivel seats, and a kitchen pod housing a sink, gas hob, and refrigerator. There’s a heater to keep you warm all year round and the electric sockets are continuously topped up by a solar roof panel, allowing complete self-sufficiency when wild camping. The vans have been kitted out with everything needed for a fun camping trip, as well as some extra Herdy surprises!
Herdy Campervans will be launched at three Booths Supermarkets, 10am–2pm, at the start of February half term week;
Anyone booking a Herdy Campervan before 31st March will be entered into a prize draw to win 3 nights hire, with 3 runners up winning a set of Herdy Adventure mugs and one lucky winner will enjoy a hamper full of local goodies kindly donated by Booths supermarket.
Richard Ford, Booths Regional Manager, said:
“We’re laying on tea, coffee and biscuits at each of the stores to support the launch for everyone coming to see the campervans. We work closely with local suppliers from Cumbria and the Northern counties so stocking up with great food and drink from Booths is guaranteed to get your Herdy Campervan adventure off to the best possible start!”
