Herdysleep Welcomes Upcoming Young Herdwick Farmer To The Flock

After welcoming onboard Dunnerdale farmers Paddy and Jasmine, Herdysleep are pleased to announce another young and promising Herdwick farmer has become a new Herdysleep Wool Partner: Archie Carr.

Archie keeps a flock of 110 sheep, 85 of which are Herdwicks, at Speel Bank in Cartmel, Cumbria. He started with just four Herdwick sheep five years ago as “it’s nice to have your own animals”, and quickly found the breed to be hardy in the outdoors and relatively easy to manage. Archie primarily keeps gimmers to breed for the flock.

Archie was alerted to Herdysleep’s Lake District Herdwick wool initiative courtesy of his partner, Hayley Simpson. She read the news about Paddy and Jasmine in Dunnerdale, and contacted Herdy Co-Founder Spencer Hannah about the possibility of taking Archie onboard. Hayley's family keep 450 sheep and beef cows near Ulverston, Cumbria.

Herdy Co-Founder, Spencer Hannah, said: “We’re delighted to welcome our second young farmer to join the Herdysleep wool supply collaboration. We’re proud and appreciative to be working alongside, nurturing 1-2-1 relationships with, and helping to support a future for small, independent family farms in the Lakes.

“These guys are not seeking fame and visibility; their reason for being is to care for their animals and the land they manage. Archie is at the beginning of his journey. It’s a unique lifestyle choice - arguably the oldest trade in town! It must be cared for.

“By buying a Herdysleep mattress, you’re helping too. Thank you.”
